Senator Joni Ernst Visited Getting’s Garden On March 31
Senator Joni Ernst stopped by Getting’s Garden in Sanborn on Wednesday, March 31 as part of her 99 County Tour for 2021, The senator took a tour of the strawberry farm operations and heard firsthand from the Getting’s on operations and about the making of the donuts, ice cream and smoothies. Ernst asked how the government could help businesses like Getting’s. Andrew Getting’s says they have adapted the business for COVID.
Senator Ernst is part of a bipartisan effort to ensure Iowa farmers have access to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The bill would ensure farmers and ranchers categorized as a partnership, many of which are small family farms‚ are able to use gross income when applying for PPP funds. Without this legislation, farmers and ranchers are forced to use net income, which is often low or negative because of the amount of depreciation that farmers claim on equipment. It would also allow Schedule F farmers who had loans forgiven in 2020 to recalculate their loans based on gross income.
Senator Ernst also made stops in Pocahontas, Buena Vista, Cherokee, O‚ÄôBrien, and Clay Counties on Wednesday. The Getting’s sent along a care package with many samplings of their goods.
Getting’s Garden has grown to serve Northwest Iowa and other communities since their first hand-planted acre in 1984. They are third-generation, family owned and operated business that aims to be a preferred destination for all your strawberry needs.
