Richard Raymond Bruns Sr., the son of Charles Sr. and Lena (Stroman) Bruns was born on June 24, 1938 in Granville, Iowa. He received his education from Baker Township No. 8 Country School. After the 8th grade he worked on the family farm in Granville. At the age of 19 he was united in marriage to Bernadine Heithus in Germantown, Iowa on January 24, 1958-1988. To this union, seven children were born. Together they moved to the Larson Farm in Paullina, Iowa where he worked as a hired farm hand and then began farming on his own in 1960. Richard was married to Joan Reimers on August 19, 1990 at St. John’s in Germantown. Together they started out living in Boyden, Iowa then moved to the Brockman Farm in Paullina shortly after. He farmed, custom baled and raised livestock for over 45 years in the Granville and Paullina areas. After the passing of Joan, he moved to the city of Paullina. He retired as a metal fabricator in 2017 from Den Hartog Industries Inc. in Hospers, Iowa after working there for 20 years. He passed away Saturday April 3, 2021 peacefully with family present at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa reaching the age of 82 years 9 months and 9 days.

He was baptized at American Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa as an infant and later confirmed on September 5, 1958 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown where he remained a life-long member and served as a St. John’s school board member, PTL, Couples Club, grave digger and involved in many other church activities.

He enjoyed his gambling, his snow-mobiling and his John Deere green. He would regularly play schafkopf at the Hawkeye, J & D Tavern and at Lloyd’s of Germantown. Richard especially loved spending time with his family and friends while out camping at the lake or at barbeque get-togethers in his “squeaky clean” garage.
