Gas Pumps Going Up Tanks Going In
By Mari Radtke
Not the price, actual pumps are going up. Zub’s Shop in Sutherland broke ground at the intersection of Van Buren Avenue and Highway 10 at the west edge of Sutherland two weeks ago. The project is in response to environmental demands for gas stations.
The project features 3 diesel pumps, 2 of which will work in tandem so that a semi can have 2 tanks filled simultaneously with 1 bill. The third diesel is for pickups.
Along with the diesel is an expansion of gasoline choices. The blender pump offers the choice of ethanol grades: E-85, E-50, E-30, and E-15. They also will have no lead 87 and E-10. The pumps will be covered by a canopy. The plan is for 24 hour restrooms on-site, so long as they aren’t abused. If the restrooms become a problem they will be locked overnight.
The pumps will be completely cardtrol operated and accept all major credit and debit cards.
Access to the gas pumps will be from Van Buren Avenue. The exit is onto Highway 10 from the car wash.
The gas tanks at Zub’s Shop on W. 1st Street will be removed probably in late summer and allow more customer parking. Opening date for the new gas pump station is not set, but is expected to be late spring or early summer.
