Visitation with family present will be from 2 – 4 P.M. on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
Lyle Edward Koehlmoos was born September 24, 1936, to Henry and Ida Richter Koehlmoos in rural Granville, Iowa. He enjoyed growing up with siblings and nearby relatives in the close-knit community west of Germantown. He attended St. John’s School in Germantown through 8th grade and graduated from Paullina High School in 1954. On June 12, 1955, he married Jeanette Ann Ruby from Gaza, Iowa. They continued living on the family farm that his dad began farming in 1915 where they raised their family. In 1976, they invited an exchange student from Australia into their family, Joanne Isaacson whom they visited twice.
Lyle was baptized, confirmed and married in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa where he was a faithful member serving as trustee, elder, and choir member for over 40 years. His many other loves included life on the farm, John Deere tractors and collecting toy tractors, music, concertina music, old time dancing, and traveling.  Even with a busy farm life, he made time to attend his children and grandchildren’s events. Lyle loved playing cards at family get-togethers and gave his family memories of annual trips that often included visits to other relatives. Lyle enjoyed talking with people, and in a room full of strangers, he would often find a connection to relatives, church, or Paullina.  He loved his squeeze box and entertained at many area nursing homes and events.
On June 14, 2009, 2 days after their 54th anniversary, Jeanette passed away suddenly.  On July 16, 2010, Lyle married a friend and classmate from high school, Muriel Puhrmann Penning of LeMars. Together, they continued to live on the farm until moving into Paullina in 2019.  Lyle and Muriel enjoyed bus trips, attended family events, visited family and friends, and cherished their time together.
Lyle’s Heavenly Father took his hand and led him home on July 6, 2023, from Marcus, Iowa reaching the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 12 days.
Lyle will be missed by his wife Muriel; children, grandchildren, and their families Peg and Gary Koester of Paullina–Brandi and Tim Sestak of Lincoln, NE and Anders; Jennifer Wall of Sioux City and Tyson; Michael Koester of Spencer; Dave and Renee Koehlmoos of Paullina–Jessica Burley and friend Trent Youngstrom of Sheldon and Haylee and Hannah Martin, Kaylee, Kane, and Aubrey Youngstrom; Jeremy Koehlmoos of Paullina; Doug and Lisa Koehlmoos of Granville–Andrew and Ashton Koehlmoos on the family farm and Oliver and Mason; Eric Koehlmoos of Sioux Center; Duane Koehlmoos of Nebraska City, NE; and Keith Koehlmoos of Minneapolis, MN; his Australian family, Joanne, Graeme, Bradley, and Gregory and Nicole, William, and Jasmine Isaacson; and Brandon Puhrmann who called him Grandpa; step-children Vicky Mulder of Marcus; Lowell and Pat Penning, Lon and Jeanine Penning, Leon and Cary Penning, Christy and Cris Collins, and Stacy and Mike Hoffman all of LeMars; 14 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law Betty Koehlmoos of Sanborn, Iowa  and Nancy Nagel of Hartley, Iowa; and many nephews and nieces.
