Good Things From Those Who Wait
Mr. D. J. Hansen, a South O’Brien Resource teacher recently committed a good deed. Beginning almost 3 years ago, Hansen with some health issues and difficulty getting around allowed his hair to grow. One of his students, Judy Long was giving him a hard time about his hair getting long. Part of his inspiration for letting it grow was to jestfully annoy his student. He said on Thursday, “It’s time. I’m sick of it,” he said.
He went on to encourage the students to find something they can do to help others.
The haircut morphed into a fundraiser to provide locks for Wigs for Kids. The hair must come in at least 10-inch lengths. Students were allowed to “bid” for a chance to cut one of his long braids. The top 6 bidders got to cut off one of the braids. Overall the project raised $1500.00 for his charity.
The top 6 donors were: Kylee Lepley, Ryan Karli, Jackson Simm, Reagan Plagge, Lydia Flinders and Hailei Wallinga. Maddie Friedrichsen took care of measuring the braids and the cleanup cut.
