MMCRU goes low to defeat Wolverine boys
The South O’Brien Boys Golf Team returned to Remsen Golf Course on Monday, April 17, after being there just a few days earlier taking on Remsen St. Mary’s. This time the Wolverines faced MMCRU in a War Eagle Conference dual on a perfect night for golf with sunshine and only a slight wind. Although the Wolverines were familiar with the course and shot a team score under their average, they lost 177-192.
Medalist was MMCRU’s Brayden Olsen with a 37, and runner-up went to his teammate Owen Schroeder with a 44. South O’Brien’s leader David Bottjen, a junior, finished with a 45, taking 3rd place. “David is really showing consistency hitting in the 40s every meet and earning medals,” said Wolverine coach Kris Faust. Senior Dylan Strubbe finished with a 47, a personal best for him. He ended up 5th, just one stroke out of the medals. Sophomores Derek Pausen and Carter Halverson carded 50s to tie for 8th. Sophomore Ryan Fuller and freshman Alex Griebel both shot 52 for the Wolverines.
Said Faust, “Our top four guys are averaging in the mid-to-upper 40s. However, our five and six spots are still up for grabs.”
