Hot-shooting Unity Christian takes care of Wolverines girls
Unity Christian enjoyed nearly 50 percent shooting in extending its winning streak to seven games with a 70-24 pounding of South O’Brien December 17 at Orange City. The Knights drained 28 of their 57 field goal tries as they improved to 3-0 in the War Eagle Conference. South O’Brien slipped to 1-2 in the loop and 1-7 overall.
The Wolverines shot just 9-of-35 from the floor for 26 percent. They were 1-of-7 from three-point range and 5-of-9 from the free throw line. The Knights, who made four of 17 trey attempts and 10 of 19 charity tosses, were led by Gracie Schoonhoven’s 25 points and Tyra Schuiteman’s 22.
South O’Brien got seven points from Riley Draper, five from Kenna Bauer, four from Alyssa Van Beek and two each from Willa Sickelka, Abby Schreck, Taja Conley and Takara Conley. Sickelka was the team leader in rebounds with five in steals with three and in assists with two. The Wolverines turned the ball over 23 times while Unity committed 10 turnovers.
