Upper Des Moines Takes on Holiday Demand
By Mari Radtke
Upper Des Moines, Inc. is a community action agency provided services for people during trying times. A food pantry, administrating the utility assistance program, LIHEAP, provided gently used coats, job coaching, disaster services and other services are part of the outreach program in Primghar. They also conduct the Adopt A Family each year at Christmas time.
The office is currently overwhelmed with readying gifts for families that have applied. For dozens of O’Brien County families, this is their only source of gifts. Most of the requests have already been fulfilled. Just a few requests remain outstanding.
For anyone able to get a last minute gift of 3XL warm clothing, both men’s and women’s to the office in Primghar to help meet the full scope of need, it would be a true gift. The menswear if for a 50 year old. The women’s is for a 71 year old. They are also in need of men’s slippers sizes 9, 10 and 11.
Part of Courtney’s plan for every gift family is to provide a hygiene kit. She said she was having difficulty finding any of those convenient and highly appreciated gift sets on store shelves. Specifically mentioned were tooth care kits, hair care kits and body wash kits, but she said they are grateful for anything that can be provided at this late date.
Merry Christmas.
