Wolverine duo golf at Boys District Meet
Senior Jace Kleinwolterink and junior Alex Griebel wrapped up the South O’Brien boys golf season May 19 competing as individuals in the 1A District Boys Golf Tournament at Willow Creek Golf Course at Le Mars. Alex finished with a 93 and landed in 45th place. Jace carded a 94 to finish in 51st place. “Alex and Jace showed tenacity today among a field of very tough competitors,” commented Wolverine head coach Kris Faust. “They represented South O’Brien with integrity, as they have done all season.”
The golfers faced the trifecta of weather conditions with cold temps, extreme winds, and misty rain most of the day. However, some awesome scores were posted in spite of the weather. Boyden-Hull took three of the top four spots with scores in the 70s and also won the meet to earn a bid to the State Golf Tournament. Akron-Westfield finished 2nd, and Woodbury Central finished 3rd. Both also punched their tickets to compete at State next week at Waterloo. Qualifying for State as individuals were Owen Demoss of GTRA and Drew Henderson of North Union. Each shot a 79.
