Obituary – Bernie Paulsen

Bernard “Bernie” M. Paulsen Paullina, Iowa

Funeral services for Bernard “Bernie” M. Paulsen, age 86, of Paullina who passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen. His funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina with Rev. Donald Meyer, officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.
Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 P.M. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
Bernard “Bernie” Max Reinhardt Paulsen, the son of Clarence and Ida (Fegebank) Paulsen was born on December 1, 1938, on the farm near Granville, Iowa. He was baptized on March 19, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church in Calumet and later confirmed on May 24, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. His education began in country school through the eighth grade until he attended Alton High School and graduated from Paullina High School in 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 and served in Europe and was honorably discharged in December of 1960. He was united in marriage to Judy Bjork on May 1, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage the couple farmed near Paullina for many years. They moved into Paullina in 1987. Bernie moved into Happy Siesta Care Center in January of 2025, where he passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 21 days.
Bernie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He enjoyed fishing and hunting out west, trap shooting, golfing, bowling, and playing cards. Bernie and Judy enjoyed golf trips to South Carolina with friends and wintering in Texas for many years. The two things he enjoyed the most were farming and his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Judy; three sons, Randy and Julie Paulsen, Steve and Joyce Paulsen of Paullina, and David Paulsen and Carmen Johnson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Tim (Ashley) Paulsen, Jill (Mitch) Van Otterloo, Adam (Kayla) Paulsen, Larie (Nathan) Foresman, Ryan (Alissa) Paulsen, Nick (Lexis) Paulsen, Madison and McKenna Paulsen; sixteen great grandchildren; two siblings, Carol (Stewart) Goslinga of LeMars, Iowa and Lenny (Cindy) Paulsen of Paullina; two sisters-in-law, Jo (David) Tesch and Jan (Keith) Koenig; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding Bernie in death are his parents, Clarence and Ida Paulsen; father and mother-in-law, Orville and Margaret Bjork; and brother and sister-in-law, Gary (Naomi) Bjork.
