Defense lacking in loss to RSM
By Coach Heather Struve
For the second night in a row South O’Brien lacked the defensive effort it needed to stay in a game. The Wolverines took on Remsen St. Mary’s June 4 at Remsen and would end up losing to the Hawks by a score of 13-1 in just four innings of play. Both teams went scoreless in the first nning, but RSM scored in bunches after that, putting up five runs in the second, three in the third and five in the fifth. RSM hit the ball decently, but many of their runs came due to the six errors committed by the Wolverine defense. South O’Brien’s only run came in the fourth inning when Abby Schreck hit a triple down the third base line and scored on a groundout by Kaylee Jacobs.
Grace Fuhrman was saddled with the loss. It was probably the tightest zone that we had had all year. It was tough to get the strike call on the curveball or change up. She ended up allowing four hits amd 10 runs (five ER), with six walks, and one strikeout in three innings. Kenna Bauer pitched the last 1/3 inning and gave up one hit and three runs (two ER). She walked two and struck out one.
Schreck led the offense with the triple and a run. Hannah Dau, Fuhrman and Bauer each recorded singles and Jacobs had an RBI.
