Paullina Council Approves Taking Garbage Bids

Garbage rates have been a topic of discussion for the Paullina City Council this fiscal year. Town and Country is the current provider. Their multi-year contract expired this year and was extended for 1 year. The city must give 6-months notice to amend the contract. City officials voted in favor of putting trash collection for the City of Paullina out for bid on Monday December 2. A date to publish request for proposals was not set.
Council reviewed several financial reports; Annual Urban Renewal Report (TIF). City Clerk Michelle Wilson explained the report essentially says the city has no new TIF debt. Total debt is $1,905,306. Council did pass a resolution to approve the TIF indebtedness. Also reported to council was the Annual Financial Report.
Ryan List was approved as a new part time police officer for Paullina. His wage is $30 per hour plus IPERS. He is the second approved pre-certified, part time police officers for Paullina.
Several financial workshops have been set. The finance workshop, a meeting for council members and department heads to exchange needs needs and ask questions. Goal setting for the departments could also be part of this workshop set for Thursday December 19 at 5:00pm. Following that a budget workshop will be set. This is to get department requests into the budget and negotiate final figures. A separate EMS workshop will be scheduled for a later date.
The power outage for Sunday night went well. An unplanned power outage hit Paullina on Tuesday. The next planned power outage as part of connecting the new electric infrastructure is planned for April 15 and is expected to last 4-6 hours.
Mayor Marlin Sjaarda reported to council that the medical/healthcare operators inquiring about the vacated Paullina Mercy Clinic are instead going to the former Mercy Would Care Center at Primghar.
