Wolverine boys roll past HMS


South O’Brien kept Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn winless on the season, recording a 78-25 win over the Hawks January 16 at Paullina. The Wolverines limited their opponent to 10 field goals and 18 rebounds while managing 55 percent shooting (33-of-60) themselves.
Double figure scorers for South O’Brien were Derek Paulsen with 17 points, Ben Woodall with 14, David Bottjen with 12 and Willie Conley with 10. Reese Lundquist added seven points, Aaron Funkhouser six, Jaden Kreber five, Justice Frerk four and Lodan Dau three. Conley supplied seven assists.
The Wolverines were 9-of-24 from beyond the arc and made three of four free throws. HMS shot 23 percent from the field, going 5-for-19 from long range. The Hawks missed their only free throw attempt.
South O’Brien collected 37 rebounds with Paulsen grabbing six and Bottjen five. Frerk, Kreber and Brady Riedemann each blocked a shot. Coming away with four steals apiece were Conley and Caden Wittrock. HMS had 21 turnovers, the Wolverines just seven.
