Threes help Westerners down South O’Brien girls
Akron-Westfield found the range from three point-territory in shooting down South O’Brien 55-40 January 19 at Akron. The Westerners hit nine treys as they dropped the visitors to 2-5 in War Eagle Conference play.
The Wolverines’ 14-of-46 shooting effort included four three-point baskets in 19 attempts. They sank half of their 16 free throw attempts. Akron-Westfield shot 38 percent, making 17 of 45 field goal tries. The Westerners were 12-of-20 from the charity stripe.
South O’Brien got 10 points from Reese Farquhar, nine from both Lindsey Einck and Marissa Ebel, five from Addison Hedberg, four from Chloe Hustedt and three from Abby Woodall. Farquhar and Abby Nelson each had two assists.
The rebound battle was won by the Wolverines 24 to 21. Einck and Ebel each collected six boards. Ebel also blocked a pair of shots. Hustedt stole the ball five times and Hedberg three. The turnover totals showed South O’Brien with 22 and the Westerners with 13.
