Shorthanded Wolverines fall to Gehlen golf girls
The Wolverine girls were missing their #3 golfer due to illness and faced some struggles when the Gehlen Jays came to Primghar Golf and Country Club on Monday, April 24. Gehlen won the dual 208-237 on what was a perfect night for golf.
South O’Brien coach Kris Faust said, “With only four girls available to post scores, everyone had to play their best. It just didn’t go our way tonight.”
Gehlen’s Jayden Barthole earned medalist honors with a 44. South O’Brien senior Whitney Einck did her part for the Wolverines. She posted a season-best 47 to take the runner-up medal. Faust said, “Whitney has earned a medal in every meet she’s competed in this season. She seems to always find a way to get on the leaderboard.”
Gehlen’s Lynsey Reuter and Addie Konz tied for 3rd with 54s. Konz took the 3rd place medal after a handicap hole card playoff. Wolverine senior Sam Wilbur carded a 56 for 5th place. Said Faust, “Sam lost her focus a bit on a couple of holes, but she finished strong. I’m proud of her for finding a way to recover.”
Freshman Lindsey Einck shot a 63, and freshman Chloe Hustedt shot a 71 to round out the Wolverine cards. Faust remarked, “Lindsey and Chloe have been thrown into varsity spots out of necessity, and they are handling the pressure incredibly well.”
