Medals are split as A-W girls slip past Wolverine golfers
The rain cleared just a few hours before the South O’Brien and Akron-Westfield girls arrived at the course for a War Eagle Conference dual on Friday, April 28 at Primghar. The Westerners won by just six strokes on the cold, windy night, 214-208.
The teams split the medals in an unusual night of scores. The top two carded 49s, but the medal went to South O’Brien senior Sam Wilbur. Runner-up went to Lainey Schuknecht from Akron-Westfield after a handicap card playoff. Four of the golfers tied for third with 52s. After looking at handicap holes and cards, 3rd place went to freshman Lindsey Einck. Josie Smith from A-W took the 4th place medal. Whitney Einck from South O’Brien and Katie Johnson from A-W shot the other 52s and took 5th and 6th place. Other cards for the Wolverines were from sophomore Addison Brueggeman, 61, and freshman Chloe Hustedt, 65.
“I was hoping to get this one since it was our last home meet of the season,” admitted Wolverine coach Kris Faust. “We came up short, but I am still proud of the way the girls battled in the cold and wind.”
