Wolverine girls not at full strength in loss to Hinton
The South O’Brien girls golf team faced Hinton shorthanded Tuesday, April 11, in a War Eagle Conference match-up at Primghar. The Wolverines had to forfeit the team competition because they were minus senior leaders, #1 and #2 golfers, Sam Wilbur and Whitney Einck, who were gone on a trip.
Although a team score could not be tallied, three Wolverine underclassmen battled for medals against the Blackhawks. Hinton’s Ashlyn Kramer earned medalist honors with a 47. Sophomore Addison Brueggeman, who played in the #1 spot for the Wolverines, shot a 53 to earn runner-up medalist honors. Andie Jo Walker from Hinton took third with a 59, and freshman Lindsey Einck played in the Wolverine’s #2 spot, earning fourth place with a 60. Freshman Chloe Hustedt, who is new to golf this season, rounded out the Wolverine cards with a 93.
Coach Kris Faust said, “I’m proud of Addison and Lindsey for earning medals again tonight. They are making a statement as underclassmen and will continue to improve and battle to be on the leaderboard. They both have great attitudes and are learning to work through the adversity of the game.” Faust added, “The summer-like weather, although pretty windy, offered a great opportunity to compete. It was good to get out on our home course tonight and play a full round of golf.”
