South O’Brien boys shoot well but fall to host St. Mary’s golfers
The South O’Brien Boys Golf Team shot their best round of the season, but it wasn’t enough to beat a tough Remsen St. Mary’s team on their home course. The Hawks took the War Eagle Conference dual 176-184, shooting a season-best as well.
Three golfers tied with a 42 for 1st place. After a 3-hole handicap card playoff, Hunter Pick from RSM earned medalist honors, South O’Brien junior David Bottjen took the runner-up medal, and Ty Tritz from RSM took 3rd. Coach Kris Faust said, “David Bottjen recorded a personal best for the season and is really hitting the ball well. He just continues to compete and get better.” The 4th place medal went to Collin Homan from RSM with a 43.
Other scores for the Wolverines included sophomore Derek Paulsen with a 45 for 5th place and sophomore Carter Halverson with a 48 for 6th place. Faust commented, “Derek and Carter are getting a lot of varsity experience and continue to battle for top spots on the leaderboard.” Senior Dylan Strubbe and sophomore Ryan Fuller carded 51s for the Wolverines. South O’Brien is currently 2-2 in WEC duals this season.
