Hinton golfers top host South O’Brien boys
The South O’Brien Boys Golf Team faced a tough Hinton team at Primghar on Tuesday, April 11, in their second War Eagle Conference matchup of the season. The Wolverines lost 193-176, putting their record at 1-1 on the season. With temps that soared into the low 80s, golfers got a taste of some great golf weather. However, the strong winds created some struggles at times.
Hinton took the top three medals in a closely-contested battle. Medalist Kaden Barrett shot a 41 and runner-up Garret Morran carded a 43. Hinton’s Beau Cook took third with a 44. Sophomore Derek Paulsen shot a 45 to lead the Wolverines, earning the fourth-place medal. Junior David Bottjen and sophomore Carter Halverson both shot 46 and tied for fifth place, just one stroke out of the medals.
Wolverine coach Kris Faust commented, “I’m impressed with the play of our top three–Derek, David, and Carter–so far this season. They are serious competitors and will continue to battle for top spots at each meet.” Other varsity cards for the Wolverines were junior Aaron Funkhouser and senior Branden Puhrmann both with a 56, and sophomore Jace Kleinwolterink with a 60.
