Season starts well for Wolverine girls with win over West Sioux golfers
It was a good beginning for the Wolverine Girls Golf Team as they traveled to Hawarden for the first meet of the season on Monday, April 3. At the Hawarden Golf Club, South O’Brien defeated West Sioux 214-307 and swept the medals.
Senior Sam Wilbur hit the ball well for the season’s first outing. She took medalist honors with a 48. Sophomore Addison Brueggeman took second with a 54, coming in 10 strokes below her average last year. Senior Whitney Einck placed third with a 55, and freshman Lindsey Einck carded a 56 for fourth place. Freshman Chloe Hustedt, a newcomer this year, finished with an 86 to round out the South O’Brien cards.
It was a chilly night for golf with temps in the upper 30s and a cold wind, but the Wolverines came to play. Faust said, “It was great to see the girls card scores in the 40s and 50s to start the season.” She added, “We have four girls who can compete and be in the medals at every meet. It’s really going to be a fun season with some intra-squad competition.”
