South O’Brien was one of 19 schools that sent runners to the Class 1A Cross Country State Qualifying Meet held October 20 at Holstein. The first two teams, plus the first 10 individual place winners qualified for the state meet. The Wolverines were unable to qualify anyone for state.
Teams from the Holstein meet earning the trip to Fort Dodge for the 1A portion of the state meet Friday, October 28 were Sibley-Ocheyedan and Alta-Aurelia on the girls’ side and Ogden and Sioux Central on the boys’.
Taja Conley was first to cross the finish line for the Wolverine girls, placing 21st. Takara Conley was just two places behind in 23rd. Elodie Wilson finished 48th, Abby Stout 75th and Laci Kenney 78th. South O’Brien was ninth in the team standings.
Top finisher for the Wolverine boys was Ben Woodall, who placed 37th. Brett Evans came in 73rd, Ethan Schwarz 76th, Ian Oliver 77th and Dominic Rounds 81st. The team finished 13th.
This marked the last meet for seniors Stout, Kenney, Taja Conley and Takara Conley.
