South O’Brien falls victim to Akron-Westfield rally
Akron-Westfield erased a 5-2 deficit with five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to down South O’Brien 11-6 June 10 at Akron. With the loss the Wolverines fell to 0-6 in the War Eagle Conference and saw their season record dip to 1-10.
Pete Bottjen and Mitch Enger each accounted for two of South O’Brien’s seven hits. Bottjen scored a run while Enger drove one in. Dain Moermond produced a single and scored two runs. Brock Riedemann had a hit and drew a walk. He notched an RBI and a run scored. Cole Tjossem singled and Boston Riedemann drew a walk. Each came around to score. Both Trevor Fiddelke and David Bottjen recorded an RBI.
Pitching-wise Ben Woodall got the start and was saddled with the loss. He went 4-2/3 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts, three walks an a hit batter. He got relief help from Boston Riedemann and Moermond. Riedemann worked an inning and gave up four runs (two earned) on two hits. He walked two batters and had one strikeout. Moermond faced one batter and struck him out. The Wolverines were guilty of three errors.
