The Wolverines looked okay at the start of their first game of the day at the Sioux City West tournament June 4 as they took the early 3-0 lead in the second inning. But then the wheels fell off as Sioux City East scored 11 runs compared to South O’Brien’s one run in an 11-4 setback.
Grace Fuhrman took the loss on the mound, pitching five innings and giving up five hits, nine runs (two earned), striking out one and walking two. Shay Hatting came in to pitch the last inning and gave up two hits and two runs (one earned). Six errors on defense did not help matters at all. Consistency on the defensive side of things is what we are looking for.
Abby Schreck had a pair of singles and two RBI’s to lead the Wolverine offense. Alyssa Van Beek had a hit, an RBI and scored twice. Fuhrman had the only other hit.
