Miscues hurt Wolverines in baseball loss to Sheldon
Seven errors and nine unearned runs ruined South O’Brien’s chances for a home victory as the Wolverines hosted Sheldon June 2 at Paullina. The Orabs posted crooked numbers in the first three innings on the way to a 13-2 win in a game that lasted five innings.
Sheldon tallied four times in the first. In the bottom of the inning Dain Moermond drew a two-out walk. Brock Riedemann followed with an infield hit. Mitchell Enger singled to left but the Orabs were able to cut down Moermond at the plate.
The visitors added three runs in the second inning and five more in the third. In the bottom of the third. Boston Riedemann laced a one out triple. With two down David Bottjen’s base hit plated Boston with the Wolverines’ first run. Brock Riedemann followed with his second single of the game but a strikeout ended the threat.
Each team scored a run in the fourth. In the home half of the inning Ben Woodall walked with one out. He stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher Pete Bottjen went 2-1/3 innings in taking the loss. He gave up 12 runs and 13 hits but only four of the runs were earned. His line included two strikeouts and two walks. Woodall threw 2-2/3 innings in relief, allowing one unearned run and two hits. He fanned four batters, walked one and hit two.
