Strong start thrusts West Sioux past Wolverine girls
West Sioux raced out to a 19-point lead after one quarter and went on to defeat South O’Brien 55-40 January 13 at Hawarden. The Wolverines were able to keep pace in the final three periods but the damage had been done. With the loss, South O’Brien falls to 0-5 in the War Eagle Conference and to 0-12 on the season.
The Wolverines shot 31 percent with 16 baskets in 51 attempts. They were 3-of-14 from three point range and 5-of-13 at the foul line. West Sioux was 18-of-45 from the field for 40 percent. The Falcons went 8-for-19 from distance and hit 11 of their 23 free throw tries.
South O’Brien scoring showed Marissa Ebel with 14 points, Alyssa Van Beek with nine, Samantha Wilbur with eight, Abby Nelson with five and Takara Conley and Tatiana Conley with two each. Taja Conley and Takara Conley each notched three assists.
The 30 Wolverine rebounds included 12 from Van Beek, eight from Tatiana Conley, five from Nelson and four from Wilbur. Nelson stole the ball four times and Takara Conley had two steals. South O’Brien committed 26 turnovers compared to 17 for the Falcons.
